What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you often schedule tasks for 'later' with the genuine belief that you'll suddenly have more energy then, only to feel just as drained when the time arrives?

Later looks roomy from here, so the task gets passed forward with complete confidence. Then later arrives carrying the same tired brain, less time and the work Current You left waiting.

  • leaving the dishes for morning because morning-you will definitely feel fresh
  • moving a difficult email to Monday with no new plan for answering it
  • booking an early appointment months ahead, then resenting it when the day comes
  • saving all the packing for tomorrow because tomorrow somehow looks spacious

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

"Count me in! I'll take care of it next week."

What’s actually happening

"My brain is writing an energy check that my future body can't cash."

How it gets read

Looks organized and proactive by putting it on the calendar.

How it gets read

Appears ambitious, capable, and ready for a challenge.

What’s actually happening

Is desperately hoping a magical surge of motivation and energy will appear out of nowhere.

How it gets read

Seems unreliable or disinterested when they have to cancel.

What’s actually happening

Is drowning in a predictable wave of overwhelm, guilt, and self-disappointment.
