How it works

Start with what you recognise.

Recognise Understand Translate

BirdStory starts with specific lived Experiences, builds understanding from the ones that fit, then turns that learning into something you can actually use.

First, a perspective

For yourself — or someone you support.

BirdStory works for understanding your own experiences, or building a clearer picture of someone you support.

For me

I’m exploring what happens for me.

Someone I support

I’m trying to understand someone else.

Start broad, or use a neurotype lens

Explorer keeps things broad, without assuming a diagnosis. You can use a neurotype lens whenever it’s useful.

Step one

1. Recognise what happens.

Start with something that feels familiar. Browse Experiences and save the moments that make you think, “Yes, that’s me.”

You don’t need to know why it happens yet. Just start with what you recognise.

Browse the Experience library

Step two

2. Understand what may be underneath it.

Look a little closer at an Experience. Explore what may be happening beneath the surface, the triggers involved, and why something that looks simple might feel difficult.

You don’t need a perfect explanation. Take what fits and leave what doesn’t.

Step three

3. Translate it for someone else.

Sometimes the hardest part is helping someone else understand what an Experience actually feels like.

Switch to the supporter view to show what others might see, what they could be missing, and what might help.

Step four

4. See your BirdStory take shape.

Every Experience you save adds to your personal picture.

My BirdStory brings together what’s standing out, recurring patterns, your Flock, triggers and Wild Words—all in one place.

It keeps growing and changing as you recognise more.

Step five

5. Turn it into personalised guides.

Once there’s enough to work with, the Guide Pack uses what you’ve built in My BirdStory to create a Quick Read, a Personal Guide and a Supporter Guide.

My BirdStory is the free hub – useful on its own. The guides are optional.

Start with one thing you recognise.

You don’t need the whole picture yet. Save what fits, and let it build from there.
