For your guide

Explorer shows the broad version of the experience, without narrowing it to one neurotype.

Choose your view

Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you have a friend who genuinely gets excited when you start talking about your special interest?

With this friend, enthusiasm doesn't need to be rationed. You can bring the long version, the side paths and the highly specific detail, and their curiosity feels genuine rather than politely timed.

  • talking for an hour about a new discovery while they keep asking real questions
  • sending a very long message and receiving an equally interested reply
  • following three side stories without apologising for losing the original point

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

"You're kind of dominating the conversation."

What’s actually happening

This is my love language. I'm sharing the biggest, brightest thing in my brain with you because I trust you.

How it gets read

"That's... a little random. Where did that come from?"

What’s actually happening

My brain just connected six different things at once, and this is the exciting conclusion. It feels totally relevant to me!

How it gets read

"It feels like I'm in a lecture."

What’s actually happening

I'm so comfortable with you that I don't have to mask my enthusiasm. This is me, unedited, sharing my joy.

How it gets read

"Do you ever talk about anything else?"

What’s actually happening

I'm trying to give you a gift—a piece of my world that feels safe and amazing. I want you to feel this excitement, too.
