Explorer shows the broad version of the experience, without narrowing it to one neurotype.

Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you find yourself asking a lot of questions in social situations, even when you'd rather be sharing your own thoughts or experiences?

Help someone understand this

Conversation feels more manageable when the other person has the floor. You keep producing questions, follow their answers and build a clear structure around them, with much less risk of having to work out what to reveal about yourself.

  • asking follow-up after follow-up until you know their whole career history
  • moving quickly to another question whenever attention turns towards you
  • leaving a conversation knowing everything about them while they know almost nothing about you

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

You're so curious and engaged! You're a great conversationalist.

What’s actually happening

I’m actually building a fortress of questions to keep the spotlight far, far away from me.

How it gets read

You're a great listener, but you're kind of a private person, huh?

What’s actually happening

Talking about myself feels like an improv scene with no script. Asking you questions lets me stick to the lines I know.

How it gets read

You seem so relaxed and in control of the conversation.

What’s actually happening

I'm holding a controller with a death grip. As long as you're talking, I'm steering us away from the topics that make me panic.

How it gets read

Wow, that was a great chat, I feel like you really get me.

What’s actually happening

The performance was a success. I have now vanished into thin air, leaving only your own stories behind.
