The Mid-Sentence Glitch

For your guide

Choose your view

Explorer shows the broad version of the experience, without narrowing it to one neurotype.

Choose your view

Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you ever find yourself stopping mid-sentence, completely unable to remember what you were just about to say?

Help someone understand this

You're partway through saying something when the rest of the sentence simply drops out. The pause isn't for dramatic effect. You're standing there searching for the thought that was available one second ago.

  • stopping halfway through a story and asking what you were talking about
  • forgetting the key word just as you reach it
  • starting an answer in a meeting and losing the point before the end
  • trailing off with your hand still raised as if the missing sentence might return

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

Looks like you're uninterested or zoned out.

What’s actually happening

My brain's search engine just crashed while looking for the perfect word.

How it gets read

Looks like you didn't know what you were going to say.

What’s actually happening

I had it! The entire thought was fully formed, and then it just... vanished.

How it gets read

Looks like you must be tired or unfocused.

What’s actually happening

My brain is actually hyper-active, processing so much that the spoken thought got deprioritized.

How it gets read

Looks like you just lost your train of thought, like everyone does sometimes.

What’s actually happening

It feels less like losing the train and more like the tracks suddenly disappeared beneath it.
