For your guide

Explorer shows the broad version of the experience, without narrowing it to one neurotype.

Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you keep a notebook by your bed because your most brilliant ideas and solutions arrive just as you're about to fall asleep?

Just as the day is supposed to be ending, your mind becomes bright, quick and full of answers. Problems that felt stuck all day suddenly seem solvable, and sleep has to compete with a rush of plans.

  • rewriting an entire proposal after midnight because the structure has finally clicked
  • turning the light back on to sketch an idea you can't stop thinking about
  • solving tomorrow's problem in your head while brushing your teeth for bed
  • opening the laptop for one note and looking up two hours later

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

Looks like you're just scrolling on your phone and wasting time before bed.

What’s actually happening

Actually, my brain just connected three disparate ideas and I'm frantically capturing it before it vanishes.

How it gets read

Looks like you have terrible self-discipline and don't care about being tired tomorrow.

What’s actually happening

Actually, this is the only time of day my brain is quiet enough to feel truly productive and alive.

How it gets read

Looks like you can't switch your brain off.

What’s actually happening

Actually, my brain just switched *on*.
