The Morning Fog

For your guide

Choose your view

Explorer shows the broad version of the experience, without narrowing it to one neurotype.

Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you need a significant amount of quiet, no-pressure time in the morning before you feel ready to face conversations or tasks?

Help someone understand this

Being awake and being ready for the world can be separated by several hours. Speech, decisions and ordinary interaction stay slow while you move gradually towards feeling present.

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

Looks like you're just sitting there, staring into space.

What’s actually happening

Reality: My brain is running system diagnostics, defragging yesterday's data, and slowly bringing core functions online.

How it gets read

Looks like you're ignoring my question.

What’s actually happening

Reality: The language processing module hasn't loaded yet. Please submit your query in 45 minutes.

How it gets read

Looks like you're grumpy or in a bad mood.

What’s actually happening

Reality: This is my 'do not disturb' shield. I'm protecting my very low battery from unexpected demands.

How it gets read

Looks like you're being deliberately slow.

What’s actually happening

Reality: I'm carefully calibrating my system for the day. Rushing this process guarantees a system crash by noon.
