What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you often find yourself pausing to appreciate small sensory details, like the way light hits a wall or the specific texture of a fabric?

Your attention stops on details that make an ordinary place feel newly made: afternoon light on a wall, the grain of fabric, a perfectly layered sound. The pause itself can feel quietly nourishing.

  • stopping to admire the colour of light on a wall
  • thanking someone for a tiny thoughtful detail they assumed went unnoticed
  • pointing out the first new leaf on a familiar plant
  • remembering the exact small kindness that changed an ordinary day

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

Looks like they're spacing out again.

What’s actually happening

Actually, this is the most present and focused I've felt all day.

How it gets read

Looks like they're dawdling and holding everyone up.

What’s actually happening

Internally, I'm capturing a beautiful, fleeting moment that refuels my soul.

How it gets read

Looks like they're procrastinating on the 'real' task.

What’s actually happening

This small detail is an anchor, grounding me in a moment of calm before I tackle what's next.
