Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you find yourself judging your 'unmedicated' self and feeling like it's a personal failure when you can't function the same way once your meds wear off?

Help someone understand this

The difference between medication being active and wearing off can feel striking. Focus, pace or the ability to begin things may shift enough that the day seems divided into two noticeably different versions of you.

  • noticing ordinary tasks become easier once medication takes effect
  • feeling a clear change in conversation as the dose wears off
  • planning demanding work inside the hours when the difference is strongest
  • being surprised by how different the same room feels later in the day

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

Being flaky or unreliable.

What’s actually happening

The brain's executive function support system just went offline.

How it gets read

Losing interest halfway through the day.

What’s actually happening

Feeling the mental battery drain from 100% to 5% in thirty minutes.

How it gets read

Suddenly being lazy in the evening.

What’s actually happening

My brain has turned back into a pinball machine of thoughts and I can't track one.
