Changing this updates how BirdStory explains experiences in your guide.

What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you often find yourself mentally replaying conversations and interactions hours after a social event, struggling to wind down?

Details that barely registered at the time can return with surprising energy once you get home. A joke, a look or an unfinished conversation keeps the event active in your head long after the room itself has gone quiet.

  • getting home from a party and pacing around while replaying conversations
  • lying awake after dinner with friends despite feeling physically tired
  • mentally continuing a lively discussion long after everyone has gone
  • returning from a work event and needing hours before the internal noise settles

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

"Wow, you have so much energy! You must have had an amazing time."

What’s actually happening

My nervous system is completely flooded. My brain is replaying every conversation on a high-speed loop and I can't find the off-switch.

How it gets read

"You're so quiet all of a sudden. Is everything okay?"

What’s actually happening

My internal volume is at an 11. I'm not mad, I'm just processing, and I can't form new sentences until the replay stops.

How it gets read

"You should just relax and go to sleep."

What’s actually happening

Relax? My mind is a pinball machine of faces, phrases, and 'did I say that right?' moments. Sleep isn't an option right now.

How it gets read

"You seemed totally fine, just a little wired."

What’s actually happening

This isn't energy, it's overstimulation. My brain is trying to file away a thousand tiny social moments, and a few are flagged for immediate 'potential error' review.
