You hear the sound of the voice, but the words never settle into meaning. A moment later there is only the knowledge that something was said and no usable trace of what it was.
- saying 'sorry, what?' after someone speaks directly beside you
- watching a colleague's mouth move while an internal argument keeps playing
- missing your name in a conversation because a song is looping in your head
- needing a question repeated once your thoughts finally go quiet
Looks vs reality
The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.
They're ignoring me on purpose.
My internal radio station is too loud and I literally did not register that sound was happening.
They obviously don't care about this.
My brain is still buffering the last sentence you said and I'm waiting for it to load.
Are they slow? It was a simple question.
My auditory processor just crashed. Please wait a moment while the system reboots.
Zoned out again. Typical.
A single word you said just launched a full-length feature film in my mind. I'll be back in a minute.
