What do these views mean?

These views change the wording and examples BirdStory shows. They are not a diagnosis.

  • Explorer: A broad starting view for recognising patterns without choosing one neurotype.
  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Includes what some people still call ADD.
  • Autism: Autism spectrum. This view focuses on autistic patterns, sensory and social processing, predictability, and overwhelm.
  • AuDHD: A common shorthand for people who are both autistic and ADHD, or who strongly relate to both sets of patterns.
  • HSP: Highly Sensitive Person. Not a diagnosis, but a useful trait lens for sensitivity, depth of processing, and emotional or environmental intensity.

Pick the view that makes the experiences feel most recognisable.

Do you find yourself replaying small mistakes in your head, feeling guilty long after they happened?

The moment keeps coming back with its emotional weight still attached. Even after it has been resolved or forgotten by everyone else, it can feel unfinished inside you.

  • remembering a slightly sharp reply days later
  • thinking about a small mistake after someone has said it is fine
  • replaying the moment you forgot something you promised to do

Looks vs reality

The same Experience can look very different from the outside than it feels on the inside.

How it gets read

"It was just a small thing, why are you still thinking about it? Just let it go."

What’s actually happening

My brain has locked onto the feeling that I *did something wrong*, and it won't release it until it feels 'resolved,' which might be never.

How it gets read

"You've been quiet for a while. Are you mad at me?"

What’s actually happening

Nope, not mad at you. I’m just replaying that one awkward thing I said three hours ago on a continuous, high-definition loop.

How it gets read

"You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Nobody even remembers that."

What’s actually happening

My system doesn't care if *they* remember. It's convinced that if I analyze this mistake enough, I can prevent it from ever happening again.

How it gets read

"You already apologized! It's totally fine, really."

What’s actually happening

I'm not apologizing for you anymore. I'm trying to apologize to the screaming guilt-alarm in my own head so it will finally turn off.
